Single Player Campaign: Complete the game on Nightmare difficulty

There is no hurry for you - you still get 6666 kills with a nail gun. I still played on Nightmare difficulty, and then immediately Shock.

Quadruple damage, this is a bluish skull floating in the air, it is not on all maps. I got it on the Illuminati map. You can do everything the same as in the "Untouched" achievement. Double damage (skull with blue highlight) is shown in the picture on the right.

The best of the best
Win a Team Deathmatch with the best result in a team
I don't know if it's a typo or not, but you don't have to get the achievement in a team fight. I got it in a simple fight to the death. You are required to score more kills than your opponent at the end of the match.

Play with at least 4 other players and collect 4 more frags than any of the opponents
Create a server for 5 players, 1-2 minutes (to connect friends) and 4-5 kills. Your friends merge to you - your achievement.

Here I will list all the achievements you can get by purchasing the expansions and then playing these maps. I stupidly went through all the cards revealing all the secrets and secret areas and unlocked various achievements as the game progressed, you can do the same, or, of course, continue reading the manual.

halloween
Complete a special Halloween map and collect all the lollipops for Lucifer
You need to collect candies scattered around the map, after which monsters will spawn. Achievement will receive automatically at the end of the map.

Satan Claus
Defeat Satan Klaus on a special Christmas map
Achievement will be obtained automatically after killing the final boss.

Evil eggs
Collect all Satanic Eggs in Easter
You need to do everything the same as in the achievement "Halloween", only you need to collect not candy, but eggs. Achievement will receive automatically at the end of the map.

Psychopath
Win a Deathmatch on Psychopath
Create a server with deathmatch mode, put 1 kill and invite a friend. Made 1 kill - got an achievement.

Player Bridge
Kill all enemies on the Bridge Map (Solo Campaign)
The difficulty of this achievement is that some enemies may die through no fault of yours and you will not be credited with the kill. Number of kills before each save: 12, 45, 102, 149, 155, 167, 171, 175, 217, 237, 261, 291.

Complete the City Map (Solo Campaign)

Secret 1. In the side yard, quickly push the round barrel out from under the shed. We need to leave the barrel safe and sound, and the canopy will collapse in a few seconds. After killing the enemies that have appeared, we roll the barrel into the opened neighboring side yard. We put the barrel behind the building, blow it up, this will break the destructible wall, and inside +100 health.


6 checkpoint. Another side courtyard, here a witch is hiding behind a round crypt.

7 checkpoint. Neighboring yard, dead end with a crypt, inside a witch and a box of weapons.


8 checkpoint. A dead end with a large crypt. Here appear tenacious skeletons with shields.

Secret 4. In front of a small crypt we find a barrel. We roll it to the center. We notice that on one of the walls in the center at the top lies a golden cross. We roll the barrel to the non-burning lantern near this wall with the cross, blow up the barrel. The lantern will fall on the wall, on the inclined support of the lantern we climb up and take the cross.

Secret 5. In the central rows at one of the side walls we see a grate, and behind it a new weapon. To open the grate, you need to put out a few small eternal lights located in the corners of the central rows. You can put out the fire by shooting circular saws from weapon number 8.

You can get more than 1000 gold per level, so the task is simple. You need to shoot at all the barrels, boxes, urns, and pick up the falling coins.

Collect 330 gold from enemies

You can extract gold from enemies by hitting them several times before they fall to the ground. The easiest way to do this is with an additional weapon attack #1. We release a round ball at the enemy, connected by a laser to the weapon, immediately retract it back, and release it again. We repeat this quickly several times, and a golden item will fall out of the enemy, giving +11 gold.


1 checkpoint. Three corridors. We are attacked by monks with axes.

3 checkpoint. Climbing stairs. We take a chopping gun - a powerful long-range weapon. Having risen, we look up, there are vases in front of the statue on the upper floor, we knock them down to collect gold.

4 checkpoint. The main hall of the cathedral. Battle with a giant monster.

5 checkpoint. Rise to the second floor. Under the stairs you can take health and grenades.

Secret 1. To the right around the far corner we see a bunch of barrels of gunpowder, do not blow them up. We drop the barrels down. Ahead we see the wreckage of the second floor, on which there is a golden cross, but you can’t just jump there.

We jump down, we notice that the far right column is lighter than the rest, and is slightly tilted to the side. We roll up to this column one of the barrels, blow it up. The column will fall on the destroyed part of the second floor, we climb up along it.

Now it remains to jump from one island to another. You can climb to the top of the wall fragment, but from a place you won’t be able to jump to another island. Here you need to jump first (Bunny Hop), after that you get a longer jump. To do this, we stand at the wall, start jumping forward, landing, immediately jump again. Having reached the upper column, but without crashing into it, we turn sharply to the right, and make the last jump towards the island we need.

Secret 2. In the room with the destroyed islands on the second floor, we go along the right wall, we find an inclined coffin, we jump on it to the upper balcony, there we find a golden cross behind the barrel.

Secret 3. Having risen to the second floor, we go along the left wall to the end of the cathedral. In the far left corner on the stained glass window we see a blue glow. We approach this window, teleport to the ledge under the ceiling of the cathedral, collect health, armor, cartridges. We return through the teleport.

Secret 2. On the second floor there is closed door. It can be knocked out by an explosion, but there are no barrels nearby. We get up under the door, shoot at the ceiling with a grenade. the door will fall even if the grenade explodes on the floor of the first floor. In the far right room of the first floor we find a large chest, break it, under it there is a springboard platform, jump to the second floor, enter the broken door.

Our enemy is a giant monster walking around the cemetery. He strikes the ground with his fists. You need to attack it in the body, but it is located at a decent height, so you can only hit it with long-range weapons - a stalk gun or soul catcher disks. We walk around the location, collect cartridges, shoot them at the boss. Ordinary skeletons are chasing us on the ground, but it's better not to pay attention to them.

After losing 2/3 health, the boss will break his chains on his chest. After that, he will create a hurricane, trying to suck us into himself. At this point, you need to constantly run away from the boss.

After defeating the boss, we absorb his soul by using additional weapon mode No. 8.


There are two hard-to-reach achievements to earn from this boss.

1) "Complete the level using only a stab gun, and never miss" - constantly shoot only at the boss, use tarot cards to slow him down (it's better to take a set of cards: use cards three times per level, slow down time, increase 2 times , weapon reload acceleration). Having taken off half the damage, you need to wait until the boss breaks the chains, and only after that apply the cards again and shoot. After killing the boss, we draw out his soul, but do not use weapon number 8, as we are asked, but shoot with a stab gun.

2) “Complete the level without taking damage” - fight off the skeletons on the ground, and when the boss breaks his chains, use tarot cards so that he does not have time to create a hurricane.

At the top of the tower we fight with a dragon-like monster. At first, just shoot at him, dodging his attacks from the air. When the boss loses health, the floor will fall apart, fall to the lower floor, continue the battle. Then we fall even lower and lower.

On the lowest floor, Alostora cannot be simply killed. When the boss loses all health, he will stand in the center of the hall, and start to recover from the stone statues around. At this moment, the statues become vulnerable, we shoot at them. The number of whole statues determines how many percent of health the boss will restore. After that, we finish off the boss again, during the next recovery, we destroy all the remaining statues, and the enemy will be defeated.

There will be columns on the way, you need to jump over them from the side: we jump forward towards the abyss, and then in a jump we fly back to the parapet behind the column. So we get to the golden cross lying at the end of the parapet.

In the normal state, the boss is invulnerable, it is useless to shoot him. There are a lot of bubbles in the swamp, and you need to shoot at them. It's better to use shotgun blasts. By exploding the bubble next to the boss, we will damage him.

When we burst most of the bubbles, fires will light up on the surface of the swamp (the swamp gas, coming out of the bubbles, will start to burn). The giant mud monster will go in a circle and extinguish all the fires one by one. At this point, the boss can be attacked and will take damage.

We kill enemies with any weapon, but we collect the remaining souls only from afar with the help of the Soul Catcher. Having collected 6 souls (all the skulls on the weapon will glow), we can subdue the enemy monster, for this you need to make a special shot by pressing both mouse buttons. It is better to aim this shot at the crowd, with a successful hit, you can simultaneously lure up to 3 enemies.

4 checkpoint. We return to the center.

Secret 1. To the right of big tree there is a building with a picture of a red demon. In front of this building there are hills, on one of them there is a spring. We enter the booth in front of the attraction to activate the spring. We jump on the spring to the second floor of the building, we find two golden relics.

Secret 2. We enter the booth to the right of the entrance, in front of the tall building. This will activate a portal on a small cauldron on the left across the road. We enter the portal, teleport into the air in front of the top of the attraction. You need to constantly press forward in order to fall to the top, where a golden cross lies in an armchair.

Secret 3. We enter the booth in front of the carousel with horses, this will open the entrance to the neighboring attraction "Acid Baths". We go inside, go through the acid, it is not dangerous, we take three prizes from the far wall: cartridges, armor, 100 health. We exit back through the window.


5 checkpoint. Right ahead in front of a large tree.

Secret 4. We climb along the spiral path to the top of the tree, but do not enter yet. On the side we see a bonus on top of an ice cream shop. We go along the path from top to bottom, jump up, with the fourth increased jump we jump to the roof of the "ice cream", take +100 health.

Secret 3. On the second floor we see armor, but to get to it, you need to climb in another corner of the room. We find an inconspicuous staircase near the wall, climb onto high beams, jump over them diagonally between the columns, jump to the top of the fence, jump from the fence to the balcony of the second floor. Here we find two relics and several boxes of weapons. On the beams on the other side we get to the armor.


11 checkpoint. Curved corridor.

13 checkpoint. Large double staircase upstairs.

Secret 5. We go up to the second floor, look at the roof of the arch, we see bonuses on it. We jump onto the railing, and from them onto the semicircular parapet opposite the arch. We climb to the top of the parapet, jump from it to the roof of the arch, take the boxes with weapons. (At this point, we should already have 108 weapon crates before entering the arena).

We have a battle with Death itself. Of the weapons, we only have the Soul Catcher. The boss can attack us with a beam that is hard to dodge. You need to seek shelter from the beam in advance, as well as restore your health in time, picking up the laid out bonuses.

We appear in front of the entrance to the building. We use a new weapon boltgun. Enemies are located high on the roof, we can use the scope (middle mouse button) to see them.

Secret 1. To the right inside the glass greenhouse near the left wall at the top are boxes with weapons and a golden cross. We jump onto the bench, from it to the cabinet (you can only jump to the corner farthest from the wall). We climb from the cabinet along the wires, collect bonuses.


1. We enter the opened left door. On the second floor at a dead end we find armor. We rise to the roof. On the roof, from the left dead end, you can jump onto the pipes along the building, and use them to get to the canopy in front of the central building, and take +100 health.

2. On the roof of the central building. Enemies on distant rooftops.

3. We go inside the building on the second floor.

4. Lower floor. Enemies behind bars, we throw them grenades of weapon number 7.

5. A staircase will open up.

Secret 2. In the room where the enemies were behind bars, on the other side a golden cross hangs at the top. We climb the stairs, turn left, go along the ledge along the wall. Then we jump to the nearest cable, and from it to the far one, we take the cross.


6. We jump into the deep elevator shaft. We fight in the hall with a teleport in the center.

7. We jump on the springboard platform to the second floor of the round hall. After defeating the enemies, a second springboard will appear.

Secret 3. From the second springboard we jump onto the transverse pipe, in the center there is a golden cross on the pipe.


From the springboard we jump to the left side, we get to the third floor. We jump onto the central pipe, and from it to the very top.

8. We jump into the tunnel with water. We run away from three invulnerable butchers. Climb up the stairs and the level ends.

Painkiller was quietly bending over. Everything that came out after the addition of Battle out of Hell, with the club of an epic hero, drove the brand deeper into the ground. All these Overdose and Resurrection were of such low quality that even an ardent fan already looked apathetically at Recurring Evil. Painkiller quietly went to the other side of the Styx, becoming a laughing stock along the way...

But here comes the light! Natives of People Can Fly, now formed into the studio Farm 51, took on ... no, not for a new part. Just for the remake. On the new / old (underline as appropriate) engine Unreal Engine 3. This news was enough to shake off the ashes of past grief from your hair and carefully look at the novelty.

Passing one level

It's not really a remake though. The developers have made every effort to ensure that it seems-somehow-the-same-same is perceived differently. The plot, for example, continues the story of the original dilogy. Daniel Garner, tireless slayer of the undead, sits mournfully among the thousands of corpses in Limbo and touchingly suffers from longing for his lost wife Katherine. Here, by chance, Death rolls up to him, with an offer that, of course, cannot be refused.

Like, here’s a wonderful weapon for you, “Soul Catcher”, wind a couple more circles around the area, collect seven thousand souls, and in return I’ll give you a missus on a plate. Everything is honest and without deceit, I swear by the cocked hat! Still, out of nowhere, the insidious Eve jumps out and stuffs herself into fellow travelers. Daniel reckoned that he didn't have many options, and, grabbing his new trunk tighter, went to the new promenade through familiar places.

And these places are few, only fourteen levels. Four of them are boss cards, so perhaps they can be left out. That is, there are only ten levels. Few, very few. Some of them have been redesigned almost beyond recognition. It seems like I saw it, you know, I've been here, but the location has become so prettier that now it looks completely different. Others seem to have not been recycled at all. All the same textures and shapes.

For some reason, many successful, bright, memorable places of military glory, such as the plague city or military base. It also upsets the order in which it is proposed to pass locations. If at first it is a pure drive and an extravaganza of bloody delight, because all the enemies climb close, brandishing axes and swords, then from the second half of the game, soldiers equipped with firearms begin to pile on, which radically changes the general mood, inclining it to a minor.

And although Daniel is now not so swift, jumping and an abundance of cartridges do not allow him to abyss. There are so many ammunition that there seem to be fewer enemies. A shotgun, a chopping gun, a machine gun-rocket launcher - the familiar sowers of death are in abundance here, but all of them are used rather for a change, and not out of necessity. Let's not forget about the notorious "Painkiller", a meat grinder staff with a flying tip.


Plus a new barrel, the notorious "Soul Catcher", spitting mostly circular saw blades. It does not spend anything on its alternate firing mode: a green beam bursting from the muzzle absorbs the souls of enemies and allows you to take control of them. The new weapon isn't powerful enough to make a noticeable difference in difficulty. But the game as a whole is noticeably simplified. A little there, a little here - and in general it became much easier to survive. Doesn't feel like a challenge. No reason to grind your teeth now. This is discouraging.

But fears about whether Unreal Engine 3 will be able to, whether it will pull, whether it will take root, turned out to be untenable. A clear, bright picture, moderately seasoned with high-quality effects, does not please only at times with a strange contrast. Some places are too, just fatally dark - but such misunderstandings happen infrequently and can be endured.

The sounds of shots, explosions, screams of monsters - it's all clear, everything is fine and wonderful here. The main thing is the soundtrack. High-quality, thrash-groovy riffs sound so organic against the backdrop of the bloody mayhem happening on the screen that you notice the music only when it stops.

The last major innovation was to be the regime joint passage. And did not. That is, there is a cooperative, but it would be better if it did not exist. And without that simple game turns into a pleasure trip. New Tarot cards, whose system has remained similar to the original, cannot be opened when playing with a partner, bosses die instantly, ordinary monsters are simply not perceived as a hindrance. And even if one of you leaves to have a cup of tea and still dies, then the revival without interruption from the session will not be long in coming.


The only thing they tried to complicate the cooperative with was the resurgent skeletons from every third approximately fallen enemy, but this is clearly not enough to create a serious threat to Daniel and Eve. And the multiplayer turned out to be stillborn at all. The usual modes are unattractive, the servers are empty.

Diagnosis

Painkiller: Hell & Damnation is not without flaws. It's short, I would like to see a different set of levels, the co-op mode is useless, and the game itself is noticeably simplified. But at the same time, Painkiller: Hell & Damnation is very attractive with graphics, adrenaline rush and low price. This bundle of concentrated rage is worth only ten dollars in the Steam store - and every cent is worth it.

It remains to be hoped that this either a remake or a sequel will bring a sufficient amount to the treasury of the developers, and next time we will take Daniel Garner for a walk to new lands. Because you really want to. Because Farm 51 seems to be able to return Painkiller to the throne of mindless spinal shooters.
